“Leaves” Hat Pattern
This pattern was worked to go with the “Leaves” fingerless gloves and the “Leaves” scarf.
Materials:
1 skein aran or worsted weight yarn.
Needles:
size US6 (4.00 mm) set of six double pointed needles (for the decrease) and 16-inch or 24-inch circular needle and size US5 (3.75 mm) set of double pointed needles or 16-inch or 24-inch circular needle (for the hat band).
1 row marker (and 4 stitch markers if desired).
Note: The pattern makes five “leaves” around the circumference of the hat. You may wish to place markers between each “leaf” to help you keep track.
Ribbed Hat Band:
On size US 5 (3.75 nn) needles, cast on 92 stitches
Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2-1/2 inches.
Change to size US 6 (4.00 mm) needles
m1, k25, m1, k25, m1, knit to end of row (95 stitches)
Knit 3 rows.
Pattern Repeat:
Row 1: *P1, k4, k2tog, k2, yo, p1, yo, k2, ssk, k4, p1, Repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: *P1, k8, p1, k8, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 3: *P1, k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, p1, k1, yo, k2, ssk, k3, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 4: *P1, k8, p1, k8, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 5: *P1, k2, k2tog, k2, yo, k2, p1, k2, yo, k2, ssk, k2, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 6: *P1, k8, p1, k8, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 7: *P1, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, p1, k3, yo, k2, ssk, k1, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 8: *P1, k8, p1, k8, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 9: *P1, k2tog, k2, yo, k4, p1, k4, yo, k2, ssk, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 10: *P1, k8, p1, k8, p1, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat rows 1-10 of pattern repeat three times.
Decrease section:
Rows 1-3 Knit.
Change to double pointed needles. (It makes things a lot easier if you apportion one “leaf” (19 stitches) per each needle over five needles. That way, the ssk falls to the last two stitches on each needle and you don’t have to count.)
Move row marker one stitch to the left
Row 4: *k17, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 5: *k16, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 6: *k15, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 7: *k14, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 8: *k13, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 9: *k12, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 10: *k11, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 11: *k10, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 12: *k9, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 13: *k8, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 14: *k7, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 15: *k6, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 16: *k5, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 17: *k4, ssk, repeat from * to end of row.

With stitches still on the needle, cut yarn, leaving about 6 inches of “tail” Thread the “tail” through the remaining 5 stitches and draw them closed. Tie off. Weave in ends. Add pompom if desired.
