A Seamless PussyHat for Carrie

2017_05_06-01A Seamless Pussy Hat for Carrie

This pattern is for a seamless top-down hat.  It uses pink yarn for the fight against breast cancer, and glitter yarn in loving memory of Carrie Fisher, for those fighting for the Resistance on both fronts. May the Force be with us.

Materials:1 skein Caron Simply Soft Party, Medium:4, 3 oz/85 g, 164 yds/150 m, color Fuchsia Sparkle.
US size 6 (4.0 mm) 32-inch or 36-inch circular needle.
(optional) US size 6 (4.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle.
(optional) stitch marker.

Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch (2.5 cm)

Using the Turkish cast on method, cast on
55 stitches for adult (=110 stitches, for head circumference 22 inches/56 cm.)
50 stitches for tween/teen. (=100 stitches for head circumference 20 inches/50.5 cm.)
45 stitches for ages 6-10.(=90 stitches for head circumference 19 inches/48 cm.)

Using the Magic Loop method:
Knit in round for 4-1/4 (4, 3-1/2) inches (11, 10, 9 cm).
K1, P1 for 4-1/4 (4, 3-1/2) inches (11, 10, 9 cm).

When hat measures 8-1/2 (8,7) inches (21.5,20.5,17.5 cm) from top to bottom, bind off the purl stitches purlwise and the knit stitches knitwise.

That’s all there is to it.

Note that you can knit the whole hat using the Magic Loop method, or once you have knitted about 2 inches’ worth you can change to the 16-inch circular needle and finish the hat using the smaller needle.

The way the Turkish cast on works, one “ear point” has a yarn tail.  The opposite “ear point” is where the row marker goes, if you use one.
