This is a little cloche hat that has owls formed from modified horseshoe cables.  The matching scarf is here. The matching cowl is here.

Materials:
1 skein Premier Yarns Deborah Norville “Serenity” Chunky, bulky:5, 109 yds/100 m, 3.5 oz/100g, color shown is Dark Forest, which has been discontinued.
Circular knitting needles size US10 (6.00 mm)
Set of double pointed needles size US10 (6.00 mm)
Cable needle
stitch marker
16 small buttons for eyes (optional)
sewing needle and thread

Gauge: 3 stitches per inch

Abbreviations:
C4F: slip two stitches onto cable needle and hold in front, k2, k2 from cable needle
C4B: slip two stitches onto cable needle and hold in back, k2,k2 from cable needle

Directions:
2016_07_06-02Cast on 76 stitches, Join and work in round
Rounds 1-8: *k2, p2, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 9: k40, m1, k36. (77 stitches)
Rounds 10-11: Knit.
Rounds 12-14: *p3, k8, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 15: *p3, C4B, C4f, repeat from * to end of round.
Rounds 16-21: *p3, k8, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 22: *p3, C4B, C4f, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 23: *p3, k8, repeat from * to end of round.
Rounds 24-25: *p3, k1, p2, k2, p2, k1. repeat from * to end
Rounds 26-27: *p3, k8, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 28: *p3, C4B, C4f, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 29: *p3, k8, repeat from * to end of round.
Rounds 30-32: Knit.
Decrease as follows:
Round 33: *K 9, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 34: *K 8, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 35: *K 7, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 36: *K 6, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 37: *K 5, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 38: *K 4, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 39: *K 3, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 40: *K 2, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 41: *K 1, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 42: *K2tog, Repeat from * to end of round.
Cut yarn and pass through remaining stitches to fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Sew buttons over the purl sections within the cable pattern that form the owl’s eyes if you opt to use buttons. .
